The Melbourne City Centre is considered the Central Business District, or CBO, of Australia and is located within the City of Melbourne. Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria, Australia. The region is the original settlement location of the city and has a rich and interesting history. The Melbourne City Centre is also a hot spot for tourists and travelers to Australia. Many major companies in Australia have their headquarters located within the Melbourne City Centre. The area is also known for its beautiful Victorian style of architecture. This article will focus on some of the major attractions near the Melbourne City Centre.

Eureka Tower--The world's tallest residential building is located within Melbourne and is called the Eureka Tower. The tower was completed in June 2006 and measures 297 meters in height and contains reaches 90 stories above ground. It is currently the world's 50th tallest building and second tallest in Australia. 84 floors of the building are used for apartments while the remainder are used for facilities and cleaning use, and the observation deck. The 88th floor of the building is the observation deck and is home to a glass cube known as 'The Edge'. The glass encasing extends out of the building and gives an exhilarating view of the city.

Melbourne Tram Network--Melbourne's trams are a major form of public transportation for its citizens. The Melbourne Tram Network is the largest tram network in the world and consists of nearly 250 kilometers of railway, 500 trams, and almost 30 routs. The trams are a distinctive part of the city and transport visitors to all regions of the Melbourne City Centre.

Melbourne Zoo--The Melbourne Zoo contains more than four hundred and fifty different animal species and has been open for more than 150 years. Historical cages and exhibits are located throughout the large piece of land and visitors are also welcome to enjoy the large flower gardens and picnic spots.

Federations Square--This precinct located near Melbourne City Centre is the hub for all of Australia's cultural diversity. Museums, galleries, cinemas, and historic buildings line the streets of Federations Square and is a major stop for local shopping and restaurants. The region has shops and stores that will be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages.
